Recycling with wisdom! Old gypsum becomes new gypsum.

First gypsum recycling plant in germany
with certified product status

By announcing (and partly already implementing) a ban on the storage of gypsum-containing waste in mining areas, the licensing authorities in the states of Thuringia, Saxony, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have given clear signals and thus incentives to implement high-quality recycling methods. Until recently there was no industrial recycling of gypsum-containing waste in Germany.

MUEG Mitteldeutsche Umwelt- und Entsorgung GmbH took Germany’s first stationary treatment plant for the recycling of gypsum-containing waste into operation in the second quarter of 2014. This facility is able to treat up to 75,000 t of gypsum-containing waste per year, so that the resulting recycled gypsum can be used directly as a product in the facilities of the gypsum industry. The technology used in the facility has been continuously developed further since its commissioning. This has increased the quality of the recycled gypsum as well as the recycling rate. At the same time, the new technology has made it possible to manufacture a new product.

Partners from England, Japan, Australia and Austria have so far shown their interest and taken a closer look at the facility.

MUEG recycled gypsum: the environmentally friendly and resource-efficient alternative to natural gypsum and FGD gypsum

100% of the recycled gypsum is obtained from the material recycling of gypsum-containing waste. High purities, reliable, inspected quality, sustainability and environmental awareness: MUEG recycled gypsum combines all these advantages in one product.

Gypsum contents above 80% enable re-using the recycled gypsum directly as secondary raw material in the gypsum and cement industry.

For instance, the recycled gypsum can be used in the manufacture of gypsum products for the gypsum industry, such as

  • gypsum boards
  • gypsum moulding plaster
  • calcium sulphate raw material

or for direct marketing as a product.

In the cement industry, these are used as quick hardeners for cement.

Our products are subject to continuous quality monitoring, with our own production inspections. Therefore they ensure compliance with agreed quality standards.

Advantages for you:

  • Lumpy to finely ground (≤ 1 mm), white gypsum without contamination or discolouring
  • High purity (calcium sulphate dihydrate content ≥ 80%)
  • Low moisture (< 10%)
  • Guaranteed to be environmentally and resource-friendly
  • Can be re-used directly as secondary raw material
